Fifty-Seven GSSM Graduates Named Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Recipients

June 21, 2010

Fifty-seven of the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics 2010 graduates--- nearly the school's entire senior class -- have been named award recipients of the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship.

Students earned this scholarship by: scoring at least a 1400 on the SAT or a 32 on the ACT and having a 4.0 GPA at the end of their junior year; or by scoring a 1200 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT, having a 3.5 GPA and being in the top six percent of their graduating class at the end of their junior year.
The statewide scholarship can be used by students attending eligible four year South Carolina institutions to cover their cost of attendance. The scholarship covers up to $6,700 in their freshman year and up to $7,500 for their sophomore, junior and senior years.
The annual scholarship program was created to retain academically talented high school graduates in the state through awards based on merit.

Of the school's 60 students who graduated May 29, more than half will attend South Carolina colleges and universities in the fall. Notable out-of-state schools to be attended by GSSM graduates of 2010 include Yale, Emory, Georgetown, Drexel, Brown and Wellesley.
