Residence Life News and Activities

Another semester has ended and it was a great one. Here is what some of our students were involved in over the Fall semester:

GSSM Celebrates International Week
The students attended an international dinner that highlighted foods from the following countries: Switzerland, Poland, Kenya, and India.  Earlier in the week they had the opportunity to learn folk dances from Mexico, learn about their peers culture through a student panel and dance the night away at an international dance.

Desserts is Stressed Spelled Backwards
This program, sponsored by RA Johnathon Wideman, discussed how to deal with stress in a healthy manner. The students were given a stress test and were able to analyze the results of the test. This program was done exclusively for the 3rd floor boys. Desserts were prepared for the students and we talked about the stresses that could come from exams as well as different ways to cope withstress.

Let's Talk Politics
Sponsored by Resident Assistant (RA), Shane Smith, students were able to learn and debate about the views and platforms of presidential candidates a few nights before the election. Each candidate was represented by a different student, at the end of the debate those in attendance were able to vote for the winner of the debate. The program was fun yet educational.

Winter Formal at the Boathouse
On December 6, 2008 students attended GSSM's Annual Winter Formal at the Coker College Boathouse. Students danced the night away with songs from different genres and time periods. But before attending Winter Formal there were several programs sponsored by some of our RAs to help our students prepare for the Winter Formal. The ladies received facials, manicures and pedicures, while the gentlemen were educated on tying a tie and proper cologne use.

This event could not have been successful without the help of our wonderful parents. Thank you so much for your support!

In 2009 we are looking forward to another great semester and a lot of fun!!!
